NPT Pipe Tap and Drill Bit Kit. About the Tap: Also called pipe taps, carbon steel NPT pipe taps are designed to clean and or re-thread damaged or jammed pipe threads. They are appropriate for threading a wide variety of materials both ferrous and nonferrous. The nominal size of a Pipe Tap is that of the pipe fitting to be tapped, not the actual size of the tap. The thread tapers 3/4 of an inch per foot. All Pipe Taps furnished with a 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 thread chamfer NPT threads require the use of a sealer like teflon tape or pipe compound. About the Drill Bit: A dependable, general purpose high speed steel drill bit ideal for production, maintenance or portable drilling jobs. They are for use in a wide range of materials such as aluminum, brass, copper, metal, plastic and wood. They are surface treated with abrasion-resistant black oxide and made of high speed steel with a 118° conventional point. These drill bits are jobber (standard) length with a round shank for use in a wide range of tool holding systems.
